This piece was produced within the framework of the text-sound-festival 1970 jointly arranged by Swedish Radio and Fylkingen. The work, which is a strong and passionate protest against the apartheid system in what was then Rhodesia, attracted attention when it was banned for a time in radio following protests from parents children from an English school in Stockholm who had taken part in the programme. The programme was later remade in England with other children. Despite this remake, Mr. Smith in Rhodesia was still banned in Swedish Radio.
